Private 1:1 work

Motherhood. Marriage. Me.

You are very good at taking care of people.

You notice. Remember. Anticipate. Make things easier. You know someone is off before they tell you. You carry the thing because it needs carrying. And somewhere along the way, being capable became so normal that nobody — sometimes including you — notices how much you're holding. Until you do.

Maybe it's 9pm.

Everyone has what they need. The children are sorted. Tomorrow is mostly sorted. And you're irritated. Not about anything big enough to explain how irritated you feel. Which somehow makes it worse. Because you have a good life. People you love. So why are you so angry? Why does one more person asking you one more perfectly reasonable question sometimes feel like too much? Why do you want someone to take care of you… when you're also remarkably good at making sure nobody has to?

So you turn the question back on yourself.

Maybe I'm expecting too much. Maybe I need to communicate better. Maybe I should be more grateful. Maybe I'm too controlling. Maybe I need to be more patient. Maybe if I could just get on top of myself… So you try harder. Give more. Explain better. Expect less. And somehow the solution to feeling unsupported keeps requiring more effort from you.

You want to be taken care of too.

Not rescued. Not treated like you're incapable. Just considered. Seen. Supported. To occasionally not be the person who noticed first. To trust that if you put something down, it won't simply sit there waiting for you. To have a need without first building a case for why you're allowed to have it. To receive without immediately thinking about what you owe in return. And this is where the work gets interesting. Because sometimes we desperately want people to show up for us… while having built an entire identity around being the one who doesn't need them to.

The dynamic may once have worked.

You were capable. They appreciated it. You handled things. They trusted you to. Perhaps being needed even felt good. Then life got bigger. Marriage. Children. Work. Family. Responsibility. And the same dynamic that once made you feel competent began making you feel alone. Nobody has to be the villain for a pattern to stop working. What worked then may simply not work anymore.

This time, the work is about you.

Not: How do I get my husband to change? And not: How can I become even better at handling everything? We get curious about you. Why is receiving sometimes harder than giving? Why do you wait until you're resentful to ask? What happens when someone does something differently from the way you would? Why does disappointing someone feel so uncomfortable? Where did being useful become tangled up with being valuable? What happens inside you when you stop managing, fixing, anticipating or keeping the peace? What do you actually need? And can you let yourself need it?

We don't only talk about the pattern.

Understanding why you do something can be enormously useful. It can also leave you knowing exactly why you're triggered while still being triggered. My work is integrative. Depending on what we're working with, I draw from BWRT, Brainspotting, body-based emotional intelligence, parts work and inner-child reparenting, alongside practical relationship work. We may work with the story. The belief underneath it. The part of you protecting something older. The response your body has before your mind catches up. And what you actually need to do differently on Thursday afternoon.

Four lenses keep us grounded.

Whatever we are working with, we keep returning to four things.

  • Who am I being here?Identity

What have I learned I need to be to be loved, safe, good or enough?

  • What is happening in me?Emotional Intelligence

What am I feeling? What is underneath it? What is the emotion trying to tell me?

  • What can I hold now?Capacity

Can I tolerate guilt without changing the boundary? Let somebody be disappointed? Receive help? Be misunderstood? Stay with myself when an old response wants to take over?

  • What do I do differently?Tools

The conversation. The boundary. The request. The repair. The practice that takes insight out of our session and into your actual life. Because knowing yourself matters. Being able to live differently matters too.

Choose the amount of space you need.

For patterns that didn't begin last Tuesday.

The ones woven through marriage, motherhood, identity, family, faith and the way you've learned to move through the world. Weekly 60-minute private sessions Private Telegram support Monday–Friday Three months gives us time for something important: To see what happens after the insight. When you ask. When you receive. When you stop automatically saying yes. When someone doesn't like your boundary. When the old guilt returns. When you stop playing your familiar role and the people around you have to adjust. When you have a bad week and the old pattern suddenly feels much easier. We don't just understand those moments afterwards. We work with them while you're living them.

The goal isn't to care less.

Or give less. Or become less generous. Those are beautiful parts of you. The work is learning to care without carrying everything. To give without disappearing. To have needs without apologising for them. To receive without earning it first. To let the people who love you have the dignity of showing up for you too. And to know, somewhere deeper than intellectually: Being loved does not depend on how useful you can be.

A few things to know.

Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on?

No. “I don't know what's wrong, I just know I'm angry all the time” is somewhere to begin. So is “Nothing is terribly wrong. I just don't feel like myself.” We can start with what is happening and follow the thread.

Is this therapy?

No. This is private coaching and integrative personal work. I use a range of approaches in my work, including BWRT, Brainspotting, body-based EQ, parts work and inner-child reparenting where appropriate. If what you need falls outside the scope of my work, I will tell you.

Will we just talk about what happened every week?

No. There is room to tell the truth about what happened. But we're not meeting every week simply to retell it. We work with what is underneath the pattern and what needs to shift — through Identity, EQ, Capacity and Tools. Insight is part of the work. Integration is the point.

Do I need to take responsibility for my part?

Yes. Your pain is welcome here. Your anger is welcome. Your confusion, resentment, disappointment and I am so tired of this are welcome. But this work asks something of you too. We can be very honest about what other people have done, what wasn't fair and what should have been different. And then we ask: What belongs to me now? I don't do work built around everybody else being the problem. Not because everything is your fault. Because your agency is where your options live.

I'm South African and earn in rands. Do I have to pay in dollars?

No. If you live and earn in South African rands, a rand payment option is available. Reach out and I'll send you the local payment details.

Do you work with men?

Yes. This page speaks primarily to women because that's who tends to find my work. But I work privately with men too — particularly husbands and fathers wanting to understand their patterns, relationships and themselves more deeply. Most of the men I work with come through referrals. You don't need one. If something here resonates, you're welcome to reach out.

Maybe you don't need to try harder.

Maybe the next piece of work isn't becoming more patient, more useful, more accommodating or better at holding everything together. Maybe it's learning what happens when you are allowed to take up some of the space too. Motherhood. Marriage. Me. Private 1:1 work.
